Coldplay are living the life at the top of the music charts after achieving their first ever number one single while maintaining the top slot in the albums chart. The four-piece band reached the singles summit with Viva La Vida - released as a download single only. The last time Coldplay threatened to snatch the top spot in the singles charts was back in 2005, when critics and fans alike were left dumbfounded after Crazy Frog's Axel F beat the group to it.It has been a successful few days for the band who have two top-20 hits in the UK singles chart with Violet Hill at number 11.They also became one of only a handful of recent acts to top the US singles charts last week.Meanwhile, the band's fourth studio album, Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, is at number one, following suit from previous efforts Parachutes, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, and X&Y before it.It's the band's fastest selling album to date and has already been certified double platinum, despite missing out on three days' sales in its first week due to international scheduling priorities. It is the first time Coldplay have achieved the feat of gaining top spot in the singles and album charts simultaneously.Other new entries to the singles chart this week include We Made It by Busta Rhymes at number 14, SOS by the Jonas Brothers at number 16, My Generation by boyband Billiam at number 23 and American popsters Weezer at No number with Pork and Beans.Darren Styles's Skydivin' crashed into the album charts at number four and Feeder's sixth studio album Silent Cry made a bang landing at number eight.
