CCTV images of missing TV star released

CCTV images of missing children's TV presenter Mark Speight have been released by the Metropolitan Police.Speight, 42, disappeared three days ago and was said to be in a "vulnerable" state following the drugs overdose death of his fiancée, Natasha Collins, on January 3.An inquest had heard Speight found Miss Collins, also a TV star, in the bath of their penthouse flat in St John's Wood, northwest London. Her body was covered in extensive hot water burns. He told police the couple had been "partying" and had taken cocaine and sleeping pills as well as drinking wine and vodka. He was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and supplying Class A drugs but later told he would not face any charges.Speight was reported missing after failing to keep an appointment to meet Miss Collins' mother, Carmen Collins, 57, for coffee in Covent Garden at 3.30pm on Monday. He was dropped off at Wood Green station in north London at 9.30am and was later seen walking along Chamberlayne Road in Kensal Rise, in the northwest of the capital, between 1.15pm and 1.30pm.At 2.18pm he withdrew money from a cash machine just 20 metres from Queen's Park Tube station. He was then captured on camera entering the station at 2.25pm and last seen 22 minutes later boarding a southbound Bakerloo Line train heading towards central London.Detective Inspector Declan Williams said: "Mark's friends and family are extremely concerned for his welfare and they continue to agonise over his disappearance. Since appeals have been issued, a number of people have spoken to us, providing vital information."We now know that Mark had travelled on a southbound Bakerloo line train from Queen's Park station on Monday afternoon. Did you see him travelling, do you know where he was heading?"Speight had been living with Mrs Collins since his fiancée's death. Last night their families issued a joint statement in which they urged the presenter to contact them. It said: "Because of his fragile state of mind, both Mark's family and Natasha's family, as well as all his friends, are deeply worried."A visibly upset Mrs Collins mouthed the words "please get in touch" as the statement was read aloud outside her house. The TV presenter is described as about 6ft tall, slim, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a brown suit jacket, dark jeans and a brown flat cap.Speight, originally from Wolverhampton, announced in February that he was quitting BBC children's art show SMart, which has run for more than ten years. He shot to fame as the rubber-faced presenter of Children's ITV Saturday morning show Scratchy & Co. Collins starred alongside him on BBC children's show See It Saw It.Anybody who has seen him is asked to call Enfield police on 020 8807 1212.
