Christopher Miller has been handed an 18-year jail term for killing a naval officer. The 25-year-old was convicted of the murder of Kunal Mohanty. The 30-year-old had his neck slashed open with a knife. Miller was later seen on CCTV celebrating the assault. The unprovoked attack was later described by a high court judge in Glasgow as 'incomprehensible'. In court, Miller denied the attack was racially motivated and told the police that it 'was just a bit of robbery.' But this claim was rejected by the jury and Miller was also found guilty of trying to pervert the course of justice for burning the clothes he had been wearing during the attack. Mohanty, of Indian origin, had been in Glasgow to sit his Captain's exams at the Nautical College.
