CC Soundfactory - So Shiok

Shot on a speeding train in a very ANONYMOUS state, "So Shiok" is the ultimate trip. 'Seen' thru and 'shot' thru the screen of a cell phone, we follow the halucinogenic melodic strains of 'So Shiok' as CC and her crew of dancers take the rest of the passengers for a RIDE. Director's Notes: When the artist cc approached me about shooting a video to promote her single, "so shiok", i was intrigued by the heady music and the word 'shiok', the singaporean equivalent of 'word!'. i had to depict something so...cool, something surreally cool. The song was about how deluded people can get when they are caught up in illusion.. and i had to depict that delusion, of being so high, so shiok. There were several locations we had access to but nothing excited myself or cc. Then an opportunity to shoot on the subway came, on the backend of another project, and of course we jumped on it! A trip (and in more ways than one!) was exactly what we needed! With HEAVY budget constraints and limited available train time, pre-pro was insane! I already had plans to buy a couple of 16mm cameras (Eclair ACL & Bolex) on ebay. This shoot was the perfect opportunity to test these cameras! Finally after myriad favors pulled, the film shoot took place over the course of one day.The exterior shots were shot on HDV the next morning. The biggest surprise came during telecine transfer. The bolex footage was MESSED UP beyond recognition! We found out later the camera had not been properly loaded and scratched the film, bouncing on the gate. Guess what, we used that footage anyway! After transferring everything onto a external hard disk we used my G5 and cut with FCP and did all the compositing and special effects with Combustion.
