A woman is fighting for her life after being run down by a thief who stole her car. Caroline Johnson was scraping frost from the windscreen of her car when a man jumped in and drove off. She was knocked over and left lying in the road while the car-jacker escaped in the Citroen Picasso. Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Langley, Berkshire following the theft which took place between 7.30am and 8am. Ms Johnson, 46, was taken to Wexham Park Hospital in Slough where she is being treated for internal injuries and injuries to her arms and legs. She is believed to be a stable condition. Her husband, Mark Collins, 51, said she had been preparing to take her 13-year-old son Jason to school when the car-jacking happened. He said: "You would think you would be safe taking your kids to school. "She's in a terrible state. Doctors can't say what the outcome will be but she's had an operation now. Basically she bled so much internally that her heart stopped beating and both her lungs are badly damaged. "They think she was dragged out of the car, she was basically mown down, run over and left in the road by someone with no morals. "I can't stress how important it is that we find these people and we find this car." A Thames Valley Police spokesman said they were trying to trace the champagne coloured Picasso registration number MC02 CAZ. Neighbouring forces and fire services have been placed on alert to look out for the vehicle. Detectives say they are looking for a white man who is believed to be in his 30s. Det Insp Steve Armstead of Slough CID said: "An investigation is under way with a number of inquiries being carried out. "We are currently liaising with our neighbouring forces in a bid to locate this stolen vehicle and the person responsible. "I would appeal for the public to contact police immediately if they see this vehicle."
