Welcome to the Life Flows Better. Bill Shannon is for real, he isnt gliding along on wheelie shoes and he isnt a stunt man. He is the CrutchMaster as he is affectionately known in the dance world. He is a self-taught conceptual dancer who uses his crutches to perform his incredible choreography around the world. Born with a bilateral hip deformity that affects 1 in 1200 children, Bill suffers severe pain and stiffness, sometimes making it difficult for him to support his own body weight. He says, as a kid I wouldnt have called it dancing, but it was then that he began to develop what is now known as the Shannon technique in order to stop the unwanted stares. So what is the Shannon technique? In Bills words, Its the root set of movements that all of the dancing branches from, once you have that anyone can do it! The beauty of Bills movement is as inspirational as it is mesmerising. The fluidity of his dance moves meant that it didnt take us long to realise that he was the perfect embodiment of VISAs flow campaign. He was first spotted in a promo for RJD2 shot by Joey Garfield that was featured on the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors showcase. In the TV ad not only does Bills choreography represent life flowing effortlessly but his flow and movement throughout the film turns a mundane shopping trip into something quite magical. Bill is an amazing artist, a one off, and his commitment to making this film as good as it could be was unparalleled.
