It was a hard day's night for Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr when they were mobbed by a throng of fans while presenting a Beatles version of the Rock Band videogame. The game will give fans a ticket to ride the Fab Four's musical journey as either John Lennon, McCartney, George Harrison or Starr. It was a case of a quick hello, goodbye to fans for the two surviving members of band, who turned up briefly at the E3 videogame trade conference in Los Angeles to rapturous applause reminiscent of the Beatlemania days. Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, the widows of Lennon and Harrison, also appeared at the event. The Beatles: Rock Band, which will be released in September 9, marks The Beatles' first leap into digitally releasing their music. Interestingly, the band has not allowed its songs to be downloaded on websites such as iTunes. McCartney and Starr performed together in April at a benefit concert in New York, but appearances together have been rare since The Beatles disbanded in 1970. The game allows players to follow in The Beatles' footsteps by singing in three-part harmonies and physically holding plugged-in versions of musical instruments to play the band's songs, including "Back in the USSR" and "I Am the Walrus."
