Calgary Zoo announced the loss of a baby elephant named Malti. Below are excerpts from their press release. Several of her keepers were with her at the time of her death. Born on August 9, 2007, Malti brought joy and delight to thousands of zoo visitors over her short life and helped to raise awareness of the endangered status of her species. Her keepers, staff and volunteers at the zoo are stunned by her death; the grief they feel is tangible.
