Automobile sector: spare parts market

The proposal will modify the 1998 directive on design which will allow independent producers to supply garages with spare parts for car repairs in all Member States. At present, this is only allowed in nine Member States (Belgium, Irland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Spain, UK, Hungary and Latvia). Such spare parts are on average 6-10% cheaper in these countries than in countries where car producers have a monopoly.
