Anger over fuel hikes in Taiwan

It's the first such increase in six months and adds inflationary pressure on the island's slowing economy. Unleaded petrol will be raised from 30 Taiwan dollars to 33.9 per litre, that's around 1.1 U.S. dollars per litre. Taiwan's decision marks the latest move by Asian economies, such as Indonesia and Sri Lanka, to lift fuel prices. Governments are finding it tough to shield their consumers from global crude oil prices that have hit a record $135 U.S. dollars a barrel.
