My name is Andrew Wilcox. I have been a member of Ecademy since the 17 March 2004. I have just had my fourth joining day! I am rated good by 350 people, I have received over 100 testimonials and I am in the top 100 Ecademists by reputation. I lead two local clubs and five active on-line clubs. I was the first person to notice the BlackStar club proposition and apply to join. But I joined at number 50 in October 2004. I am a sceptic but you can trust me. Back in the last quarter of 2007 someone approached me to join a team organising a large scale event for Ecademists where they could discuss their exploitation of this wonderful social network. This was one of the things that started the ball rolling and lead to the two events we are organising in April. The Open Minded Day team are a group of Ecademy members who have set aside their our own time over the last few months to organise an event particularly for everyone in Ecademy but also for any social networker. The events have the theme "How can we work better together so that we all get more from Ecademy?" Everyone will interpret this differently. Which is great because the Open Space Technology process we will be using is designed for this situation. However everyone asks what do you mean, can you clarify it for me? I cannot clarify for you but for me it means: How can I collaborate profitably with Ecademists. An example of this is Conference Reaction, a brand I have for recording events and conferences, publishing them and enabling after event discussion. For this work I need teams of mind mappers (using MindManager), cameramen, sound recordists, interviewers, editors, web designers and publishers for the event. At the Association of Project Management Conference this resulted in 20 man days work for a two day event. I knew all the members of the team and we did a great job. For another evening event at the Chartered Institute of Marketing, there were seven people in the team but I did not know two of them. They just came recommended by my network. This team work seamlessly videoing, mixing, recording and web casting the event whilst I mapped the debate. The new guy on sound and the camerman did a fantastic job. This is one big reason why I belong to Ecademy and I want this to develop. The APM conference was my biggest Ecademy related pay day. 10 of those a year and the family jokes about Ecademy would stop. At the first event in Bracknell, I will be the Open Space facilitator. So I can help you with the process not direct the discussion. It will be your choice on the day. Open Space is simply an open forum for discussion where attendees step forward to lead discussions and book a time and location in the timetable matrix. You are free to lead or to participate where you like. My expectation is that you will expand your network: I expect 50 to attend and I would like 100 to be there. I am looking forward to meeting people I have only interacted with on-line. You will find out about or offer tools and processes for working better on Ecademy. At a past event in 2005 I met and started collaborating with several of the attendees, most of whom I am still working with today. Trust me I have been at six Open Space days - THEY WORK because of you. Open Minded Day one is the 22nd April at Bracknell and the second day is the 29th April in Paddington. Please visited the Open Minded Day club on Ecademy for more information.
