Akira's Landmine Museum in Cambodia

Akira's Landmine Museum in Cambodia

This is a Travel Tale about an important educational attraction in Cambodia - Akira's Landmine Museum. A short motorbike ride out of the popular tourism town of Siem Reap (Angkor) in Cambodia can be found Akira's Landmine Museum. Akira is a local Cambodian who has been independently clearing landmines throughout Cambodia and more recently near the Thailand border for many years. In this is a short documentary Akira talks about his museum and his landmine clearing work. More importantly he also talks with a young landmine victim who lost three young friends in a tragically all too common landmine accident in the jungle near his house. NB This video was filmed in early 2000 at a time Akira was under pressure from local officials to close his free museum so that they could open their own fee-based museum.
