Ahamdinejad & Mugabe's Presence At UN Sponsored Global Food Crisis Summit Cause Uproar

Discussions at the United Nations summit on the global food crisis quickly turned into a circus with the arrival of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Rome on Tuesday . The Iranian president wasted no time in taking the opportunity to lash out against Israel declaring Europe was bearing the economic and political costs of the "false Zionist regime." Another unwanted guest at the summit was Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, with world leaders calling his presence obscene. Italian public television, RAI, reported that the Iranian president's name was dropped from the summit's closing gala event guest list, which will be hosted by Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon The Iranian President's presence at the summit has been the source of much embarrassment to the Italian government with both Berlusconi and the Italian Foreign Minister as well as Pope Benedict XVI refusing to meet with him because Iran does not recognize Israel's right to exist. The Vatican however was quick to issue a statement saying the Pope had refused all requests to grant world leaders attending the summit an audience including Ahmadinejad.06/03/08
