Afghanistan: The Right to Learn

Education is a child's right. It is the way to peace and stability, toward erasing 30 years of war, oppression, poverty and despair. In April 2007, 5000 rural Afghan schoolchildren and their parents crafted paper-chains and wrote messages to the President and Minister of Education. Their requests were simple: paid teachers, trained teachers, safe school buildings and supplies—all the things that IRC is working with the Afghan people and government to provide for their children.
