AFGHANISTAN: Territorial Army bolstering troop numbers in Helmand Province

With 58 British soldiers killed in Afghanistan since the war began, the British military is hurting because of the conflict - and has at times been forced to acknowledge that the mission has been tougher than they expected. London Tonight has learned that the Territorial Army - trained here in the capital as part time soldiers - are being used to help bolster troop numbers in combat. London Tonight joined Somme company as they were deployed to Camp Bastion in Helmand province. Initially their orders were to guard the main base there. But it quickly became apparent that their mission would be much more than that. They were sent out on patrol to the town of Gereshk, a known Taliban stronghold.
