Author: Added: 11/06/2008 Duration:123.66 http://www.beet.tv/2008/11/bandwidth-usage.html There are currently over 1.5 million active media streams online, 83 percent more than the daily average, according to data on the Akamai website, indicating higher video consumption likely prompted by the U.S. election. The number of visitors per minute to news websites has also risen, to around 3.4 million in the U.S., 14 percent above the daily average. The global increases are even more drastic, with a 120% increase in Australia, 55% increase in South America, 54% incerase in Africa, 33% increase in Asia and 34% increase in Europe. Andy interviewed Suzanne Johnson, Senior Marketing Manager for Digital Media at Akamai, in the Akamai network operations control center last month, where she showed him all of Akamai's global deployments on a virtual globe. --Kelsey Blodget, Associate Producer
