Man charged over bus killing
A man has been charged with the murder of a 60-year-old ex-soldier who was attacked on a bus.Stan Dixon, who had earlier told a gang off for swearing, suffered a serious head injury in the alleged assault, which happened as he waited to get off a bus in Horden, near Peterlee, County Durham, on Saturday.He was taken to Newcastle General Hospital where he died on Wednesday.The victim was returning to Horden from Hartlepool with his 41-year-old partner when the incident happened at about 10pm on Saturday.It is believed the couple got into an argument with two men and a young woman at the back of the vehicle, which prompted the pair to alight earlier than they had intended.As they waited to get off at the front of the bus, the two men ran forward.A 23-year-old was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
