Doctor Who triumphs at TV awards

Doctor Who has emerged the big winner at the TV Quick and TV Choice Awards, scoring a hat-trick of gongs. The popular sci-fi programme won Best Loved Drama while stars David Tennant, 35, won Best Actor and Billie Piper, 23, who's left the cast, took the Best Actress title. The night's other major winners included EastEnders which won Best Soap for the first time since 2003. Charlie Clements, 19, who plays banker Bradley Branning in the Walford soap, took a second award for the programme by winning Best Soap Newcomer. Coronation Street took two awards including Best Soap Storyline for the Alzheimer's and eventual death of Mike Baldwin (played by Johnny Briggs) after 30 years in the soap. Former comic Bradley Walsh, 46, won the Street Best Soap Actor for his role as Mike's son, Danny Baldwin. EastEnders and Coronation Street had gone head-to-head with seven nominations each. Emmerdale's Ursula Holden-Gill, 32, took the award for Best Soap Actress for her character Alice Dingle, who died in the show after battling with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Paul O'Grady, 51, was awarded the 10 Years At The Top Award for remaining 'at the top of his game'. The Lily Savage star won the Best Daytime Show trophy last year, but this time lost it to Noel Edmonds, 56, for Deal or No Deal. Best Factual Show was Supernanny and Best Lifestyle Show went to Location, Location, Location. Strictly Come Dancing took Best Entertainment Show for the second year running, and the channel's Waterloo Road, set in a failing comprehensive school, was named Best New Drama. And Little Britain took Best Comedy Show while I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! won its fourth consecutive gong for Best Reality Show. The awards were voted for by readers of TV Quick and TV Choice magazines.
