The victim was part of the Lee County Sheriff's Office "explorer program." Deputies described Saturday night's armed robbery as very violent crime, a violent crime involving one of there own. Ferrante said, "the victim who was shot was one of our explorers." It was a very active crime scene Saturday night at this Hess gas station off Alico Road in San Carlos Park.
Deputies say two suspects, a male and female both wearing masks, robbed the pick n' run convenience store. During the incident the store clerk suffered gun shots wounds and was airlifted to the hospital. Less than 24-hours after the incident, it all came to a head when both the Lee County Sheriff's Deputies, and the Fort Myers Police worked together nabbing the suspects. Deputies say the victim was part of the Sheriff's Office explorer program, a program for young men and women with ambitious of being a deputy one day. Deputies say the extra man power was not a result of the young man hoping to be one of their own, but it was due to the violence of the crime. "Our record speaks for itself. We have come out in force depending on the level and the violence and what we feel the threat is to the community," Ferrante told WINK News. Deputies have not released the name of victim at this time, but they say his injuries are serious. .
