2009 Grammy Awards Recap: Top performances, winners

2009 Grammy Awards Recap: Top performances, winners Another year, another awards season. We've got the recap to the biggest night for the music industry: the 2009 Grammy Awards! Hey everyone! I'm Dana Ward coming to you from the Clevver TV headquarters... and this show is all about the Grammys. It's the show that's dedicated to music and its makers. While the Recording Academy of America honors 110 categories for the Grammys, only 10-matchups are included in the 3 and a half hour televised ceremony. Most of the night is for the audience to enjoy live performances by legends and newbies alike... One crowd favorite: Al Green and Justin Timberlake's performance of 'Let's Stay Together'. Another set that people are still talking about is the performance with John Mayer, Keith Urban, BB King and Buddy Guy. These guitarist and blues legends performed in honor of the late Bo Diddley. An even more surprising collaboration was between Stevie Wonder and the Jonas Brothers for the classic, 'Superstition' and 'Burnin' Up'. Some other Grammy performances to note include Jennifer Hudson's belted out 'You Pulled Me Through', Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles singing 'Stay', as well as Dave Grohl and Paul McCartney bringing down the house together. Plus, in honor of the Motown group called The 4 Tops, Jamie Foxx, Smokey Robinson and Ne-Yo gave it their all alongside the sole surviving member, Duke Fakir. Some other name performances include Carrie Underwood, Kid Rock, MIA, Jay-Z, TI and Lil Wayne. Now back to the purpose of the show: the awards. It seems that luck was on the side for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss who dominated most of the major Grammy categories. Lil Wayne was quite successful on his quest for victory this year - being nominated for the most awards at 8, he took home an impressive 4-trophies, including 1 for Best Rap Album. Also hot-to-trot, Coldplay won 3 Grammys, including 1 for Best Rock Album and 1 for Song of the Year. It was an exciting night for Jennifer Hudson as well, who received a Grammy for the Best R&B album, and she certainly delivered an emotion-packed speech to a supportive crowd. A highly coveted win in the music industry is for Best New Artist and the 2009 victory went to Adele. There were so many wins and memorable performances at this year's Grammy Awards. Let us know about your favorite, or not so favorite, part of the show. Leave us a comment below.
