LONDON - September 6th, 2005 - blinkx, the smartest thing on your computer, today announced a content agreement with Teachers' TV, enabling teachers and education professionals the ability to search all content from the channel via www.blinkx.tv.
With the new school year upon us, UK teachers are busy planning their lessons for this term. The blinkx TV service will help in cutting down the time and pressure teachers face in planning their lessons thanks to its unique search abilities which capture and index the entire video stream at source, so that exact clips or segments can be pinpointed. This will enable teachers, short on time and in need of ideas and inspiration, to jump straight to the material they seek by entering a few words into the search box.
Funded by the Department for Education and Skills but editorially independent, Teachers' TV is aimed at helping busy education professionals with programmes that share ideas and practical experience. It contains programmes of interest to everyone who works in schools, from heads to newly qualified teachers, governors to support staff.
While most programmes are currently available via www.teachers.tv, blinkx TV will provide an additional portal to access programmes, with an ‘always on', entirely searchable video library for education professionals in the UK.
"blinkx TV's intuitive, easy to use interface will give teachers greater flexibility as they search the site to find and access the programmes that are most relevant to them," said Martin Trickey from education digital the company which makes Teachers' TV.
"We're pleased to become part of such an important venture as Teachers' TV and provide the technology that links teachers to new learning strategies, information and resources," said Suranga Chandratillake, CTO and Co Founder, blinkx. "By searching Teachers' TV through www.blinkx.tv, teachers will be able to link straight to hours of specialist material - it's the ultimate support tool for teachers who wish to get straight to the material they are most interested in."
blinkx, the smartest thing on your computer and on the Web, is changing the way that people think about search. Only blinkx can harness the desktop, Web and TV - unifying content with a one stop search tool. Available to users on the Web at www.bxfind.com and www.blinkx.tv, as well as free to download, blinkx automatically and intelligently links to content anywhere and in any format, on the Web, on the desktop and even on TV. blinkx's conceptual toolbar means users are no longer limited to keyword search; instead, blinkx assesses all the information that the user is actively viewing, and automatically recommends and retrieves relevant content, from local, Web and TV searches, based on context. In addition, www.blinkx.tv makes thousands of hours of TV content fully searchable and available on demand for the first time. blinkx is a privately-held company based in San Francisco and London. More information is available at www.blinkx.com.
