Video search engine Blinkx introduced blinkx BBTV, a new downloadable online television player designed to deliver higher-quality viewing on the Internet.

The player is launching with a library of independent films and content from existing partners, Blinkx said.

The viewer also links to information on the Web to add “context” to a viewer’s experience, Blinkx said.

The new player is built on Blinkx’s video search tools, so it is designed to provide contextually relevant information alongside the videos.
